Alaskan Seniors for Obama have no Affiliation with Obama for President Campaign. Opinions expressed are solely the views of Alaskan Seniors for Obama, and not necessarily views of the Obama campaign. |
UPDATE--
October 29, 2008:
The McCain machine
now criticizes Obama for a relationship with Rashid Khalidi.
McCain however neglects
to inform the American public that a committee John McCain
Chaired gave
$800,000 to an organization founded by the same Rashid Khalidi.
POT: Here kettle, kettle, kettle
And by the way it seems
that Palin does not believe McCain is fit for the Presidency. She
is repeatedly critical of McCain and his actions.
Does not agree with environmental statements.
Does not agree with the
manner the campaign is being run
States she has nothing to lose, and intends to run for
top chair in 2012, no matter the outcome of this election.
etc, etc, etc
UPDATE -- October 22, 2008: Although we support our candidate, we attempted to keep this page fair, with issues at the forefront. Today some of us have received the hate robocalls, as have many of our friends and families in the lower 48. We will not allow ourselves or our message to be tainted and lowered to that standard. Both Palin and McCain have voiced disapproval of these calls. Yet, the malice continues. Thus, we must ask;
Senior Citizens of Alaska as well as those within our entire nation, have been somewhat silent during the 2008 presidential campaign. Our silence however, does not mean we are deaf.
Many Seniors throughout out country support John McCain. We respect that choice. Choice is the right of the America we grew from childhood to honor and value.
Alaska Seniors for Obama cringe each time Barack speaks of possible incapacity of John McCain due to his age, and we really don't care if McCain can use a computer. Many of us were brought up without the use of a computer to function as our brain. We also cringe each time John McCain repeats his history of his service to his country and his POW experience. We admire John McCain for his service, and his sacrifice, as we do for the many thousands of other valiant men and women who served, were wounded, became POWs, or those who never returned.
But; do we owe the presidency to those who served merely because they served? Or due to serious past discrimination, do we owe the presidency to Obama because he is black, or the vice presidency to Sarah merely because she is female?.
Both sides must realize this is a new America, with new thoughts, risks, economic challenges, and a nation of vitally healthy, mentally adept and dynamic senior citizens.
With less then 30 days remaining until election, we have weighed each candidate, their issues, their words, and their promises. We realize the importance of the outcome of this election, and look to the past, as well as the future. We frequently wonder if either candidate can lead our country out of the morass of problems America has suffered over the past several years, while at the same time protect future America. Looking at John McCain and Looking at Sarah Palin then taking all into consideration we support Barack Obama;because we can no longer afford four more years of the same failed policy.
******** A war with no seeming end in sight
Whether a person believes or does not believe in this war effort, our children and grandchildren are sent on deployment after deployment with barely breathing space in between. Some are returning without arms or legs, brain damage from bomb impact, or seriously emotionally disturbed. Suicides increase daily. Some of our children will never return.
OTHER ISSUES:
THE TRUTH ABOUT TAXES
,Parade Magazine Intelligence report noted savings and additional taxes under each candidate in their Sunday October 12th Issue.
SENIOR ISSUES
While senior citizens look to the immediate
problems, they must also deal with in their retirement years,
and here the issues become clearer.
Obama has a lengthy
position paper
in regard to Senior problems and needs. Perhaps not all that
we would desire but a plan none the less.
John McCain's senior issues are squeezed his in Issue paper on health care.
MEDICAID AND MEDICARE:
Reforming The Payment System To Cut Costs.
"We must reform the payment systems in Medicaid and Medicare to compensate providers for diagnosis, prevention and care coordination. Medicaid and Medicare should not pay for preventable medical errors or mismanagement."
John McCain Will Develop A Strategy For Meeting The Challenge Of A Population Needing Greater Long-Term Care.
"There have been a variety of state-based experiments such as Cash and Counseling or The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) that are pioneering approaches for delivering care to people in a home setting. Seniors are given a monthly stipend which they can use to hire workers and purchase care-related services and goods. They can get help managing their care by designating representatives, such as relatives or friends, to help make decisions. It also offers counseling and bookkeeping services to assist consumers in handling their programmatic responsibilities."
UPDATE:
McCain's
Health Care Plan
will give each American family a tax credit of $5000, and
individuals $2500 that will be funded by
reducing Medicare and Medicaid benefits.
Under McCain's plan,
will an employed teen or young adult still insured under their family
plan be gifted with the $2500 credit and receive refund for monies not deducted
from income?
MCcain plan is confusing. His income/credit table provides income
credits under his planned new tax plan, but will his tax plan
be approved by Congress?
McCain's plan speaks frequently of the young healthy
citizen with little input on the older or chronically ill
McCain's Health
Plan issue paper places
more time into attempting to discredit Obama's plan then
clearly explaining his own
McCain's Health Plan
Obama's plan states some money will be
taken from Medicare by reducing fraud.
Federal employees insurance offers eight to ten
nation-wide alternative insurers.
Will the same nation-wide alternatives be offered under his
plan? Will same deductables and catastrophic benefits apply?
Obama plan will give tax credit for insurance payment.
Obama Health plan
GRANDPARENTS AS PARENTS THE SECOND TIME AROUND.
Neither candidate has directed any issue to a matter of
importance to many seniors, especially in Alaska where a
survey reported that almost 50% of seniors are responsible for
care and/or upbringing of their grandchildren. They then become
responsible for sharing their
fixed income with grandchildren.
While children in stranger
foster care, or in many cases of adoptions, caretakers receive
full care compensation. Grandparent who assume guardianship of
their grandchildren rely on ATAP, a far lessor sum, or no assistance
whatsoever, with full or remaining
support coming from retirement funds.
Obama's Christianity has been repeatedly questioned, or for
some they ‘know' Obama is a Muslim. Nothing can be said to
dissuade that belief, and the point would be useless to argue.
The McCain Palin campaign is now attempting to insure that
America not only share the McCain/Palin doctrine in this matter,
but now spew hate and misinformation as to the loyalty of Obama
as an American
citizen.
In June of 2006,
Senator Obama delivered what was called the most important
speech on religion and politics
in 40 years. Speaking before
an evangelical audience, Senator Obama candidly discussed his
own religious conversion and doubts, and the need for a deeper,
more substantive discussion about the role of faith in American
life.
Let us suppose for a moment Obama were Muslim. Must all citizens within a nation that sells itself to the world as a model of freedom of choice, be required to practice Christianity to be accepted as a true American? Certainly those who committed the despicable act of 9/11 are filled with hate and loathing for America and Americans, but should that hate and loathing be returned in kind and foisted upon Muslems of America who live among us, practicing their beliefs as Americans? Only each individual conscience can respond to that question.
Pit Bull Shows her Teeth
Has ‘lipstick Sarah' now become, Swift Boat Sarah? At a fund raiser in Colorado Sarah Palin repeated accusation in regard to Obama's loyalty:
"Our opponent, though, is someone who sees America, it seems,
as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he's paling around
with terrorists who would target their own country," she said.
"This is not a man who sees America as you see America and as
I see America." The San Francisco
Chronicle indicated Palins remarks may
sound racist in nature. Obama, who has condemned both Ayers and the
group's views, met Ayers years ago while a politician in Chicago.
They lived a few blocks from each other. He once sat on a
charity board with Ayers between 1999-2002.
UPDATE: LETTERMAN SHOW
OCTOBER 16. Letterman holding John McCain's feet to
the fire when speaking of Obama's association with Ayers, asked McCain
if in life everyone had contacts with questionable people. McCain acceded, but did not
excuse Obama's relationship with Ayers. Letterman then asked if McCain had not
had relationship with Gordon Liddy.
In 1994 Liddy advised his radio
audience, after the federal
raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas: "Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and
Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist
them with arms. Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing
bulletproof vests. ... Kill the sons of bitches." McCain reluntantly agreed
the relationship was fact.
Is
this our Sarah that we once knew, or thought we knew?
Or has she merely become a member of the Washington ‘elite'?
When asked about the relationship
in a primary debate, Obama said "This is a guy who lives in my
neighborhood, who's a professor of English in Chicago who I know
and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He's
not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis."
He went on to point out that he shouldn't be held accountable
for
"detestable acts" that happened when "I was 8 years old."

Letterman did not ask John about his association
in the Keating five scandal
